Citrus Cacao Ice Cream
Easy for All
This easy-to-make homemade ice cream has a sophisticated flavor profile more delicious than that of the general store-bought ice cream, and it is also free from any unhealthy additives.
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup whole milk
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
pinch of salt
1 orange; juiced and zested
3 tablespoons orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
Combine heavy cream, whole milk, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until cocoa powder and sugar has completely dissolved.
Then, stir in orange juice and orange zest and mix well.
Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and refrigerate to cool for 1 to 2 hours, or overnight. Make sure the plastic wrap touches the top of the cream to prevent a skin from forming.
Pour cooled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to your machine's instructions, about 25 minutes.
In the last two minutes of the churning process, add in your liqueur.
Transfer ice cream into a container and freeze for 2 hours before serving.
To serve, soften by taking the ice cream out of the freezer 10 to 15 minutes prior.
